CORAL
The life of coral is spent in dreams --
anchored and wanting,
its mind slow
but flashing silver for an instant --
a fantasy of fin and gill
and light cut through a prism of bone
fine and thin as glass
a school of thought
disappearing,
conjured again and again
in its half sleep
like me
ruminating by the fire
anchored and wanting,
its mind slow
but flashing silver for an instant --
a fantasy of fin and gill
and light cut through a prism of bone
fine and thin as glass
a school of thought
disappearing,
conjured again and again
in its half sleep
like me
ruminating by the fire
