I really like the opening--
Not sure how I feel about the ending. It's clever, more or less. OK...
"Clothes of humanity"--
Honest critique:  what other kinds of clothes are there? clothes of extra-terrestrial life? clothes of lapdogs? I'm serious...
For this reader, you place a lot of pressure on that last line, and it doesn't support it. There are 2 ways to address this--either alleviate the pressure on the last line, by developing the world of broken air conditioners a bit, or re-evaluate the last line. I mean, what would happen if you changed the last line to something like, "remained miserable in their clothes because they were really fat and didn't want to subject other people to the sight of their bodies"? Then the mere act of wearing clothes would become "humane." Anyway, something for you to think about.

I think you are taking the last line too literally. Is it not a uniquely human condition to be clothed in misery, anger, resentment, etc.

Deeply relatable.  Most of us have probably been like cold blooded lizard people, seeking out a cold stone.

(I was actually thinking of writing something about this.)

For me, the last line made me differentiate between the clothes of nature and those designed by humans.  Like how the skin has been compared to a space suit...  Something like this.
