Et Quis Turpis

“Et Quis Turpis”

I am sub-human—yes, it is true—
But I have feelings—and some are like you.
We brave the same storm—
Both wish to be warm
While the snow falls around us
And the graves surround us.
The silence, caressing your face.
In perfect alignment—with all my disgrace.
I am ugly and burdened—by the unknown
And I steal you a flower—from the nearest tombstone.
And if ever I kiss you…
Will you run away?
And you know I will miss you
When you leave me someday.

After the bells—have stopped their ringing,
And I am in darkness—where no voice is singing,
None hear me weep—inside of my heart,
As friends and lovers all—are quick to depart.
I am disgusting—when I face the mirror
Where I only see demons—and all that I fear.

But I watch my flowers grow—
In the only Eden that I know.
Caress the petals—as they drift through the trees,
With the rain in the whispers—of all of the leaves.
And I will gather blooms—for you, a bouquet.
Though I am unwanted—I hope you will stay
Into the light—aurora of home,
Glowing and burning—o’er the sea foam.
And if I kiss you—here under the stars,
Will you forgive me—and see past my scars?
In my heart, I am a stranger—long to be thine,
And I could be beautiful—If you ever were mine.
