Quicksilver

I've spent a lifetime
Just to be where you are
But only hold you in moments
Painting a picture
Not wrought in oils but acrylics
Faster drying
For you're a changling
Fleeting
The evening wind's sighing

Rainbows are caused by refraction
Reflection
Dispersion
Kalidoscoping watercolor mists in their prisms
And you
You're incandescence
Burning
Dancing quicksilver
Save when darkness takes you
Colored with greys
Waxing and waning
Your phase of the moon
Yet somehow
The sun always rises
Though sometimes your gone

Do fireflies know that they're flickering light
As they random weave their nightly flight
Disappear
Reappear
They're gone but their not
Sometimes I know you
Sometimes your new
A butterfly rising
Shedding the old

And what in love
Ever makes sense
Sometimes I don't even know where you are
Only that somehow I'm going there too
And its just like that
Like when your here with me
A dream to hold on to
starlight on mist
Sunshine on dew
Remembrance
A presence
An unlooked for distance

And I've spent a lifetime
Just to be where you are
