The Physiology of Atrophy

The doorway to the desert.

The blood red sun sets into the stone
Of your future.

Sand granules set into stillness.

This moment is detached from humanity
and human activity.

Abandon hope is spoken in closed lips
Across the face.

* *   *

The first night screams between the ears
Or so I’ve heard.

Because I’ve drowned in the depths
Of every known darkness.

The sand granules become electrons
Cast side to side.

*   *   *

The physiology moves in steps
Of atrophy.

Sand granules move ever slower
Like the mentality of thirst and hunger.

Yesterday – Today – Tomorrow

It’s all a dream.

*   *   *

Is it a tragedy that some make it through
And collapse?
