Homeric

Oh to live the life Homeric
The earth not walked but strode upon
By heroes gallant and maidens fair
And claim now as in the days bygone
Above common courage, the heroic

Can common clay put on the higher
Break earthly shackles by which we're bound
And will indomitable daring wear
That voice in triumph and glory sound
Rousing others to such hope aspire

That this day should dawn majestic
Beneath brilliant skies or blackened storm
Whether fate or chance, either to dare
And in the malestorm of trial form
Not just life heroic but life authenic

To be as such in mortal keen
Who never by the gods were sired
Both wound and crown be prized to wear
Proud victors in our trial by fire
Evincing an earned, more mythic sheen

Oh, of such to dream, and such inspire
The mythic reborn in days as ours
To breath free the incense of rarer air
Beneath the aether which bears the stars
At length, alone to each,, what we of life require
