WHY I READ POETRY

My friends, acquaintances,
and even family members
joke, make fun, and
even question WHY
I spend time reading, writing,
and securing poetry.
I have "101" reasons.

WHYS

First and foremost:
I am a readaholic been
one since a boy. Poetry
has always been among
my favorite subjects.
Reading poetry is relaxing
and stimulates my mind.
Reading poetry dares me
to think outside the box.
Reading poetry, especially erotic,
pushes my sexual buttons.
Reading poetry presents
new challenges relative
to try to understand the poem.
Reading poetry educates me
continually on subjects and ideas.
Reading poetry introduces me to
new friends that I grow to admire.
Reading poetry challenges me
to be a better writer and
student of poetry.
Reading poetry gives me an
invitation to stand before
an open mike and read to others.
Reading poetry helps me admire
writers who labor, struggle, and
continually hone their skills;
never content to be one-track.
