to remember
I remember you in the shadows
before sunlight was stole away
sitting still out there
in the silence
not knowing
what was to come of day
I remember you when the dirt had stiffened
the winds, once wicked
up and whisked away
there were shells but no seashore
as echoes rung through rain
I remember the drear of December
lasting all way to May
bare and barren
hearts beating empty
an anchor to a wounded prey
I remember you
a soul slipping from memory
crying for life to be living
more than to be left alone
before sunlight was stole away
sitting still out there
in the silence
not knowing
what was to come of day
I remember you when the dirt had stiffened
the winds, once wicked
up and whisked away
there were shells but no seashore
as echoes rung through rain
I remember the drear of December
lasting all way to May
bare and barren
hearts beating empty
an anchor to a wounded prey
I remember you
a soul slipping from memory
crying for life to be living
more than to be left alone
