meetings with bwiti:
the booming ancestor spoke
“I’m going to kill you”
i said: “I'm already dead....”
laughing he said “let’s begin”
the time for choices was over
he pulled off my skin
nothing more than a mangled mess
a throbbing blob of human flesh
as every cell cried
on that floor i died
"this is what you are"
cells dividing, dna replicating
swimming evolution
from ape to man.
hum of minds always singing
then
I again became me.
He said “this is your second chance
you don't get three.”
3 days later
wearing a garment of sweat
I crumbled out like dust
blowing from a magical womb.
Cutting umbilical cords
and gasping first breaths.
so fresh it hurts,
dripping wet from birth.
cradled by thick roots
I found my roots
I am newly born
I owe my life to thee.
