Memories in mourning shrouds, severed ties
touching lives, feather light leaving no mark
Forever is forever sworn, sacred oaths
born in deepest night always die in day’s light
Do no harm, leave no trace of my passing
Paths cross, merge in a heartbeat, separate
Impossible to remember every bright moment
your forgotten moments with me are final proof
I don’t remember until I walk over the graves of us

It is indeed a very somber and reflective piece. I think eventually you may be right, as generations pass and elders are forgotten, unless they've left a legacy of work behind. Take poets, for example, or visual artists—their work resonates within millions over generations of time.
Being I personally believe the life is the blood, the impression others leave is encoded in the altered DNA of generations to come. I think that's why we feel we *know* someone upon meeting them: kindred spirits, to speak. Or, Soul Tribes. I enjoyed the couplet form and final monostich.
I am thinking graves should be grave since you're using 'us'?

There is actual truth in what you say, and science is starting to bear that theory out. Our DNA 'remembers' that which happened to our predecessors in an extent that is still in the process of being explained.
That said, the Talmudic school of thought that it is the memory of a person that is what keeps them alive beyond death resonates with me - if a person isn't remembered, how are their deeds and works remembered? To be forgotten, in life or beyond, is to (so to speak) never have existed.

With Holocaust Remembrace Day approaching, it reminds me of my yearly post about David Berger, who just wanted to be remembered as having existed.

Beautiful. It reads dark, though I know It's not meant to be. Yet so sensual it makes me shake.
