Night & Day

I am night
And I am day,
I meet right down the middle,
It’s balanced that way.
I do not force toxic positivity,
I do not simply allow things that don’t sit right with me.
I lead with love,
But with a short leash,
I don’t hesitate to yank it back
If need be.
I am fair,
I am just...
Only until someone decides to try their luck.
I imagine it’s hard for others,
Ones who deny their darker side,
The ones looking for permission first,
Afraid to live in their truth,
They’d rather hide...
Rather keep the peace,
Bury their feelings inside,
Caring too much about what everyone may think.
Pushing love and light
Like our most high never granted the night,
Rather run from their shadow,
Wont accept that it always follows.
I do not wear a mask.
I do not fake the funk
I cry when I need to,
But there’s always love.
I just understand the balance,
I walk alongside my shadow,
I do not deny it’s presence,
Because I know we all have one.
I know you can’t smile all day,
I know not to say yes when I mean no,
And I do not ever feel bad for stepping away,
