run away

i am haunted by what i have done
when i was high and on the run

it helps you get away
from the thoughts in your mind
that you don't want to stay

but when the good feelings pass
it's the bad that will last
and you lie awake in the night
till through the window you see light
and you wonder if you will win the fight

then another day comes
and again you need to run
to stop from thinking of what you've done

but what will it take
to get you away
from the demons in your head
that always want to play

they torment you hour by hour
and you know
you have no power
you so easily give in
just one pill to make it end

but what will you do
when tomorrow comes
you know you will need to run
from the demons and thoughts in your head
all they want is you dead

so again and again everyday
you take that pill to make it go away
everyday the same thing
slowly adding more pain
again and again and again
will this cycle ever end
