Image for the poem Lonesome

Lonesome

Lonesome
She was always lonesome
But then, she could always get a word in

I didn't doubt her
many did
But not I
No, I gave two years
to try and lift her
up
out
and into the crowd

It didn't work though
Apparently men'll give you a hand
only if you can give one back...
Even then they were shrewd
as men can be

Lost in all this
I look forward
for another lonesome dove
to come fly in

My basement has no windows
but occasionally

occasionally

the door is left open
just a little
And the tiniest breeze could drag her in

I would wait
for her to join me
We could get lost together
become animals once again
children left to the naked maddness
we could dance
fuck
sleep
oh please, live to excess w/ me
die w/ me
let's go out
But don't make me
just don't make me

I would sink into her
we would be one sickness
unto each other
a cancer growing steadily
one day we'll cure ourselves
