The Resistance

The Resistance

Sweat drips down her face as she aims to control her breathing.
Whoever says exercising is easy is straight up misleading,
but she likes how it makes her feel and finds it appeasing.
Her workout leggings make her ass stand out; she doesn’t mind teasing
all the guys who stare at it hopelessly dreaming
they ever have a shot at getting her in bed for some breeding.
They always try to say hi to her as she’s leaving,
but she never responds and finds trying to corner her at the end of her workout as cheating.
Strike up a conversation during her workout, not at the end.
These suckers never have a chance at becoming her boyfriend.

A cross hangs around her neck, her cherished possession.
Sex before marriage for her is out of the question.
She’s had a few hot make out sessions,
but only partake in those only as a concession
for revealing her virginity secret during a confession
and seeing her companions confused expression.

She’s single today as she exists to gym wiping off the sweat from her face with her trusted towel.
She’s taken back by the smell of the air today and finds it to be foul.
Next door to her gym is a coffee shop she goes to for an after-work out beverage.
She’s a regular at this point and the shop gives her a discount that’s rather generous.
They know her on a first name basis and appreciate her patronage.
She loves the place and would never write a review that’s sacrilege.
Now with her coffee in hand, she takes a seat at a table to enjoy her brew.
It’s scorching hot at first and that’s her cue
to set it down and let it cool down for a bit.
She doesn’t want her mouth and throat throwing a fit.

She takes out her phone and goes online to read up on the current news.
Some may frown upon this and find her choice in reading material to be a snooze,
But she enjoys keeping up on the events of the world.
Some leave her feeling positive, while others make her toes curl.
She reads an article about an old man who recently committed suicide by walking in front of a semi-truck.
It makes her feel horrible and she quickly moves on to another article fearing bad luck.
The next article is about the rising percentage of people who cheat in their marriage.
It makes her glad she’s still single and tied to someone with a life they are sharing.
The next article is about a recent molestation accusation against a local priest.
If true, she hopes the priest quickly becomes deceased.
The last article she views is more positive with news of new businesses that will soon be opening in the area.
She will avoid them at first since everyone will be flocking to them in mass hysteria.

She puts her phone down and returns to her coffee.
She can’t wait to drink it and is craving it rather awfully.
As she takes a sip, she sees a man walk into the shop looking directly at her.
She finds it strange and wonders if a bad situation is about to occur.
He’s is dressed very nice, though wearing all black.
His goatee in on point and no one would dare ever give him flack.

He moves straight towards her never taking his eyes off of hers.
She wonders if she has ever met him during some previous year.
He reaches her table and sits down directly across from her still smiling large.
He appears confident and a man who is always in charge.

She looks at him confused and asks, “can I help you with something?”

“How’s the coffee here, is it good?
I would try every one if I could,
but you look like someone who knows the menu well,
so I’ll ask you to give me a quick sell.”

“I just get the same thing every time so I’m not a good source to ask.
The people that actually work here might be up for that task.”

“I lied, I’m not here for the coffee, but I do need your help if you don’t mind.
I have a plan to rob this place and its rather fine.
You go distract the employee and I’ll rob the place blind.
We will split the pot 50/50 since our efforts will be combined.”

Shocked and tongued tied, she struggles to find words to say back.
This man must be on crack,
to be able to go up to a stranger and ask for their help in a robbery.
If he wants a big pay day, he should try to lottery.

Finally, she responds, “you need to leave before I call the cops.
I’ve been asked some strange questions, but this one is on top.
I would never do such a thing to any business or person.
I could never live with myself carrying such a burden.”

The strange man looks her in the eye and says, “you will help me rob this place.
Now take off your innocent face
and follow my lead as we take everything we can.
I have a very solid plan.”

The woman gets up from her chair shaking her head,
as a blinding light appears behind her filling the strange man with dread.
The strange man falls over backwards in his chair shaking in fear,
as an imagine in the light suddenly appears.
The woman walks out of the shop and dials the police
happy that internally she has kept her peace.
