Who Gums It Up

A city of my design
Would be vast and well thought out
With roads heading all directions
To the east, west, north, and south

Great restaurants and shopping
Different cultures in all the stores
Stadiums and arenas
With newspapers showing the scores

Museums of every sort
Theaters in every park
Opera, ballet, all on display
Orchestras after dark

Power would be green
Recycling everywhere you see
Utilities would be abundant
Internet would be free

But an Utopian society
This does not make
For if that's all that's there
It's nothing but a fake

It must be full of people of all ages
Of all colors and religion
That's what it takes to be Utopian
But who am I kidding

It takes more than a city
And there's always some jerk
Striving for glory and power
Who gums up the works
Author's Note
I am not idealist. If I did believe in an Utopian city, it would have nothing to do with the city and everything to do with the people in it. Written for a competition.
