My Thoughts Fly Away
If I sit still and alone
My thoughts soon fly away
Like flocks of birds migrate
Headed south to some
Far away place I've never been
They travel to their place of rest
In the way that Paraguay
Is always somewhere
In South America even though
I never think about it
Yet my thoughts end up there
My thoughts fly away
Taking me with them
Distant as the Irish Sea
Their waves breaking
On a lonely shore
Washing my reality away
My thoughts run free
Like Yellowstone bison
Roving and jousting
Kicking up dust as they go
Strong, shaggy thoughts
With horns for protection
My thoughts wane
They swim in circles
Like the hammerheads
That gather in the Sea of Cortez
Close to the surface but
Never needing to come up for air
My thoughts quickly fly away
As pigeons in the park
Stirred into flight by a child
Who just wanted to see
Their squeaky wing lift them
Into the air
I sit and think
Let my thoughts fly away
So I can travel to mysterious places
Worlds unknown as they explore
Like Columbus and study like Galileo
I turn my face to the wind and let my thoughts fly away
My thoughts soon fly away
Like flocks of birds migrate
Headed south to some
Far away place I've never been
They travel to their place of rest
In the way that Paraguay
Is always somewhere
In South America even though
I never think about it
Yet my thoughts end up there
My thoughts fly away
Taking me with them
Distant as the Irish Sea
Their waves breaking
On a lonely shore
Washing my reality away
My thoughts run free
Like Yellowstone bison
Roving and jousting
Kicking up dust as they go
Strong, shaggy thoughts
With horns for protection
My thoughts wane
They swim in circles
Like the hammerheads
That gather in the Sea of Cortez
Close to the surface but
Never needing to come up for air
My thoughts quickly fly away
As pigeons in the park
Stirred into flight by a child
Who just wanted to see
Their squeaky wing lift them
Into the air

Let my thoughts fly away
So I can travel to mysterious places

I turn my face to the wind and let my thoughts fly away
