Young and Foolish...
To be young and foolish is to lack the
experience that only comes with age.
Give me the wisdom of the ages and
I will change the world.
As a child my view is small, somewhat
bigger as an adolescent, broad as a teen
and a true world view as an adult. As an
adolescent and teen my interests lie elsewhere.
I have school, an obligation, sports for
notoriety and women for love, love being
just another name for desire. This is how
the bulk of my time is spent.
Then there’s alcohol. Beer under the
bleachers after school. Smoking was
the mark of a cool guy with a package
of cigarettes in his shirt pocket.
This is the world of the young. Instant
gratification drives most actions.
The world is theirs and their circle of
impact is small but within reach.
As they age, their view expands. School
becomes important, sports become just
sports and women, well, desire is replaced
by affection and “going steady.
A career becomes important. The possibility
of job and a family becomes real. The fact there
are wars is scary. People contract sickness
and disease and die. For the first time, the
ultimate reality, death.
