Twenties to Seventies
You know what’s my wish tonight?
Let's fast forward to my age's flight.
As I imagine myself, on a rocking chair,
With skin so wrinkled, and a head with no hair.
At the age of eighty, when I’m sitting in my lawn,
As I think of you, and the time that’s gone.
I call my grandkids as they are in their teens,
"Let me tell you a story when your grandpa was in jeans
Heartbreaks, love, arguments and relationships,
I have seen it all from hips to the lips.
She was in her teens too when we started dating,
The rush within us was like professional skating.
She was so fair and her eyes so shiny,
Enough to attack my heart so tiny.
She had a spark and she was full of magic,
I wasn’t ready for something so tragic.
We fought and screamed and loved and rolled,
We sailed the boat, whether it’s summer or cold.
She was worth the pain, the storms and the tears,
She was so strong, brave and without any fears.
We held onto each other as the time was ticking,
We made memories as our phones were busy clicking.
She had a vibe to make every man go crazy,
She was a rock-a-bye when sleepless nights were hazy.
Any man would fall on his knees for such beauty,
Yet she chose me and bounded with a duty.
When the times were rough, and things were falling,
She would not leave my side, when I was crawling.
And that’s what love is my kids, you got to stick together
Sometimes it’s for months and sometimes its forever.
You know whom am I talking about as I sing you this rhyme,
Your grandma who is laughing with her immutable chime.
OH my darling! You are still the same in your late seventies,
You are still the cure to my pain, you have all the remedies.
So my dear children, as you will fall in love, be brave and smart,
The world will try to hurt you and break you apart.
Go look for someone like your sweet grandmother,
Who would care for you and love you like no other."
As the kids enjoyed the story in a rhyme,
It was time for dinner as its already nine.
As everyone settled for the dinner, the kids were smirking,
The grandpa winked at his wife, as the love story is still working.
So let me pull you to the present for now,
I want that future with you no matter how.
Love will be a tough ride to make us reach there,
Hey you are the only thing I ask to lord in my prayer.
I want one more day where you read this and blush wide,
You know you are my everything; you are my strength and you are my pride.
