Hero
Too weak to be Superman too poor to be Batman
Its ok I never rocked with the DC Universe anyway...
Wait which superhero has a daughter? That could be me, the one with nieces and nephews
The one who is the second to last son of a sinner preacher man...
How can I be a hero with no powers, no will, not born into wealth, not gifted with stealth
My origin can only be summed as an everyday medical mistake called sperm and egg...
How can the weakness of circumstance become your hero...?
Equipped with a Captain America self-righteousness
But how can I protect a land that won’t protect me?
Can’t be a Spiderman because I’ve never seen New York
Couldn’t be Wolverine I’m not old enough
Guess I’m not much of a Marvel either…
Nothing extraordinary about my story
Just a common man trying to stand
To be as strong as a few pushups allow me
To be as successful as a bachelor’s degree allows me
Praying my daughter will never grow up without me
Looking for a hero and I forgot all about me
Not Iron Man, Not Steel
Not employed by Star Labs or S.H.I.E.L.D.
So I’ll ignore fantastical comparisons
And just keep trying to be a better man
