["When I write, it's of cardinals"]
When I write, it's of cardinals
more than cranes, because you
make due with the materials
on hand: you'll read a scripture
about pine forests, instead of
mountains, and running brooks.
All transcribed with an unruly
ease, or painstaking choice, my
lines accumulate, both slowly
and sudden, as snow descends,
with unpredictability that only
draws ire, or a childlike wonder.

open, pure and fresh like the care that you describe the brooks.
have to ask if your avatar is of Cavafy as I have started reading him through another writer, another 'Alexendrian' writer who I admire immensely.

Thank you for reading! Such a response is very touching. It was an unusually instant spill, to the point I was unnerved (Haha.)
I only know of Cavafy by reputation, so far; my avatar is of Pessoa, who I finally read two winters back. 'Alexandrian?'

off the top of my head without any verification i think the alexandrians revolved around Lawrence Durrell's (the brother of Gerald) mid-century writings who was a big Cavafy and Pessoa'n admirer. Henry Miller was very tangential with his own Mediterranean writing.
your writing appears, for me, to reflect that 'med' style which I do not recognize in any other current writers. am glad to have discovered you.

Am curious, was this an actual group? I find the comparison very intriguing since I haven't read their work; my influences have generally been Anglo-American poetry (with some, modest, detours.) That Durrell was an admirer of Pessoa, as well, piques my interest in his novels.
Thank you, I'm glad that you've enjoyed them. : ) Do you appreciate any other particular styles?

The term is something that I may have read, referring to the writers involved and around his (Durrell's) Alexandria Quartet. I wrote it hoping it may have resonated as you write with that similar 'metaphysical' view with such care for space and air. For myself anyway.
to my shame it has only since I have been here that I have started to appreciate poetry in its own right, having always read and loved novels, etc. I have always loved American writers, the beats of course, the angry young English writers.
I love a quote by Durrell which is surely as applicable to poetry "Books are like love letters; they are destined for a particular person. Never try to read anything which you don't feel was written for you...every book is a kiss. But there are plenty of people one has no desire to be kissed"...so with this as a compass ...
again so glad to follow you, such a breeze of fresh air for me and I so look forward to reading more.

At first, I could only imagine the meaning; since I've read of 'Georgian' and 'Augustan' poets, and know a metre by that name. Whether it exists in print somewhere, I do quite like the ring of it!
There shouldn't be any shame in that. I'm rather a slow reader, in general, and its especially love-hate with poetry . . . I love that quote from Durrell, and very much love an intimate sense in poetry (whether it's personal, or not,) that metaphysical aspect.
Who're the angry young Brits you're thinking of? The playwrights like Osborne? The beats I've wanted to explore further; am quite fond of Kerouac.
Thank you, again; and likewise for the conversation. I've been a lame duck here for too long, and have wanted to engage more.

Re: Re. [
Yes Osbourne, Sillitoe (loneliness of a long distance runner), Waterhouse (Billy Liar), Hines (Kestrel for a Knave) so many more...I did grow up reading these, they complemented my yearning escapism and wrestlessness of Kerouac and H.Miller so well.
I did fall upon a correspondence of letters between H.Miller and L. Durell, a young english writer just starting his literary career and Miller's elderly artist state; which blew me away and introduced me to so many other writers. And now i think, how could this kind of conversation exist in these times between genuinely adventurous artists where nearly all avenues of expressions are all plastered with 'terms of conditions'
https://books.google.co.uk/books/about/The_Durrell_Miller_Letters_1935_1980.html?id=IZtaAAAAMAAJ&redir_esc=y
anyway, i think some areas are discouraging but i think this site is not or attempts not to be. yep and thanks to you for the conversation.
also there are many writers you have listed in your influences that I have never read or k now of. which of those would you recommend and I would love to know why.

I found this to be fresh and unique, then I read the discourse between you and nomoth. Fascinating, isn't it, when we innately adopt a style that resonates within us, only to discover that it exists among like-minded we'd never studied before.
A coming home of sorts. Nothing is by chance!

Thank you, kindly, Ahavati! I agree, and it can be like discovering a precedent to justify the effort (Haha.) Oddly, the inspiration came from browsing a Wikipedia article!
