BEHIND YOUR EYES
Behind your eyes
is the place
you can always see
your mother’s face.
When the time comes
for a mother to die
she keeps watch over
her children from the sky.
If you are a child
with a mother not here
take a few moments
to feel her presence near.
Close your eyes,
see her face,
feel her arms
warmly embrace
you and know,
a mother’s love
can never go,
it’s inside you,
lives in your heart.
So a mother and child
never truly part.

Author's Note
Over the years I have worked with many children who have lost their mothers and many elderly women who want to see their mothers. I was thinking about this on Mother's Day back in 2014, so I wrote the above poem and sent it to my Mother. It seemed very fitting that this was the last poem of mine which my Mum read, a few weeks before she went to live in the sky.
