Legacy
I used to stay up just to stare at a star
its eternal flame in a pool of black tar,
giving me comfort as it duelled the dark.
sizzling sweet solace with its electric spark.
But the truth is, that star was dead long ago,
all that remains is its vestigial glow,
swallowed by time and forever now buried,
now it’s that knowledge that keeps me up worried.
Will anyone care when I am dead and gone,
or will they rejoice, and forget before long?
Will I be lost in the void for all of time,
or part of me stay, like that star and its shine?
I miss the stars, what they used to resemble.
Now they stare at me, and I fear, I tremble.
its eternal flame in a pool of black tar,
giving me comfort as it duelled the dark.
sizzling sweet solace with its electric spark.
