REGRET
forget who hurt who
and just be
and do
forget time lost
to the grind --
our good minutes mined
employment endured
for a roof overhead
and a warm bed
and bread
forget
the judgment
of others
they don't have a clue
what it is to be you
and nor can you know
another man's woes
so don't envy his shoes
just sing your own blues --
four chords and a voice
not taken by choice
is all that you've got
it's simple as that
forget failures
and schemes
and back burner dreams
relish your day
for the hours ain't long
a glimpse of the sun
and then
you're just
gone
and just be
and do
forget time lost
to the grind --
our good minutes mined
employment endured
for a roof overhead
and a warm bed
and bread
forget
the judgment
of others
they don't have a clue
what it is to be you
and nor can you know
another man's woes
so don't envy his shoes
just sing your own blues --
four chords and a voice
not taken by choice
is all that you've got
it's simple as that
forget failures
and schemes
and back burner dreams
relish your day
for the hours ain't long
a glimpse of the sun
and then
you're just
gone
