Uncle Joe

Lawrence Street starts at Walmgate Bar          
an ancient gate leading east          
to Hull and Roterdam          
passed Russels cycle  shop          
 and a   tannery;    
Tinny Dicksons  making  kettles    
 while you wait, from sheets of tin from Wales,        
Tetley ,Hunts Ales,  and Sam Smiths ,       
next door NMU , made lorries          
Uncle Joe worked there; he worked in wood          
 rode a Rudge  motor bike which he crashed          
 l liked uncle Joe .He  was the only drinker in the famly.        
 He didn't buy another.
