Small Town Beauty Queen
She was kind of a hippy
Just a small town beauty queen
But her face didn’t know it
He was kind of a poet
He took the road less traveled
But his words didn’t show it
She wanted to be folk star
played small bars on the road
But the crowd wouldn’t show
He wrote her songs in his book
But his words never stuck
And was always short on dough
Slept each night in their van
Talking about peace and the Man
Too smoked out to make a thought
Started their days in front of stores
Got a few bucks but wanted more
Blamed the Man for what they got
She ended up working nine to five
Left the road and him behind
But she still liked to sing his songs
He joined up and went to war
Got some medals and wanted more
But he still writes about times long gone
About a hippy and a poet that just kept moving on
Just a small town beauty queen
But her face didn’t know it
He was kind of a poet
He took the road less traveled
But his words didn’t show it
She wanted to be folk star
