Tasked To Be Masked

When wearing a mask will you be tasked with determining my intent?
Will you follow me to see what's my pedigree before getting violent?
Can I vent about the suspiciousness you see within my melanin?
There's apprehension in many (hue)man who just can't seem to win

Every turn and spin has them in the crosshairs and that scares them
Imagine being in shark infested waters and not knowing how to swim
Always on the brim of warfare everywhere that your entity resides
Even before Covid, being anxious when your kids went to play outside

This is an inside view for those of you who may be unaware
That even without the mask many grasped attention & stares
The kinky hair of invisible (hue)man causes fright in some asses
If you can't perceive it or believe it then put on your glasses

Author's Note
There was a discussion I heard on the radio yesterday about how some African Americans were concerned about walking around with mask on. Also, they gave a specific example of some gentlemen being followed throughout a store when they entered it with their mask on. That's not a new occurrence. The wearing of the mask just heightens some folks Spidey sense and make us out to be an instant suspects (more than before). Hearing that stuck in my head and inspired this poem
