MIRROR
this old man
in my mirror
shaving
when i shave,
brushing his teeth
when i brush mine
contorting his features
just to annoy me
and making a general nuisance
of himself
and i know
that geezer is thinking
what i'm thinking
and sure enough
he mouths the words
even as i speak 'em,
saying,
"good lord!
when the fuck
did that happen?"
in my mirror
shaving
when i shave,
brushing his teeth
when i brush mine
contorting his features
just to annoy me
and making a general nuisance
of himself
and i know
that geezer is thinking
what i'm thinking
and sure enough
he mouths the words
even as i speak 'em,
saying,
"good lord!
when the fuck
did that happen?"

LOL -- Just wait until You begin to wake up with a pain here and an ache there for absolutely NO REASON other than aging!
i'll be 63 next month and this happens all..........the..........time. Sometimes i'll wake up and can barely walk and then the next day, like magick, that pain is gone!
If the only thing i can keep young is my heart and attitude then i CAN put up with the aches.

Then You KNOW!!!
Yoga helps (i signed up for Yoga for empaths and will get started once my mat gets here)
My Sister (who is a year younger but for some odd reason looks a lot older than me)
swears by ice and heat pads!
LOL -- i gave her Tiger Balm last Christmas and She was super happy.

I hope the yoga works out for you.
We have to keep the body moving, lest it coast to a stop.
Tiger balm.
The gift that keeps on giving.

Ah, the inevitability of aging... we tend to just live our lives until one day we stop look in the mirror and think "holy crap, what happened!?"
You did a good job at explaining the feeling of coming to terms with age.

Thanks, my friend.
If we're lucky that scary old stranger eventually shows up in the mirror.

A prefect capture to the confusion and dismal of it all...watch that wheel get faster.
You know speaking for my own point of view, it is exactly as You've put it, as if looking upon someone else...always a stranger (I swear I'm still 20, then I look)
Excellent Pen Java-Your Ink is Always Worthy reads!!!

Yeah...somewhere along the line the body takes the express train and the mind the scenic route. But young at heart is better than nothing.
Thanks so much for your kind comments, my friend.

Dear J,
This a universal write and I loved your spin on the aging process. Alas, the mirror and the camera don’t lie, dang it! Often, I just look at my image and ask “who are you?” because it’s not one I recognize anymore. Oh well, time marches on but I like to think with each new wrinkle I’ve gained a “deeper” sense of knowledge. I’m going with that for now...great write. H🌷

Thank you, Honoria, for your thoughtful comment.
What you say is true -- we get older and hopefully wiser.

So true but acceptance is key to beating that image. The mirror can reflect but your capabilities far exceed that. An image isn’t life even if it smiles back. Great write, T.
