LOST

He didn't know where
she went that day,
when he followed
her all the way
across the bridge,
and down the lane
she turned the corner
and he couldn't contain
the disappointment
which welled inside
when he wondered
"Did she hide?"

Did she know that he
watched her ever move?
Did she think that he
had something to prove
when he stood on the
corner day after day
waiting for her
to look his way?

How would he feel
if he knew she
was just going where
she needed to be,
that she really
had no idea
who he was or
why he came here
to the place where
their paths crossed
when she did see him
she just thought
he looked lost.

Author's Note
This is one of a series of poems that have been coming to me for the past few years, about a man and woman, not sure who they are yet but they are quite interesting. The verses come out very quickly without editing and I instantly think, "here's another one about those two".
