Hidden in plain sight

We are all afraid of the unknown
We hide from the outside world
We are just a clone
We aren't really there

We fear rejection
We fear being hurt
We fear affection
We fear that it goes away

Why do people fight
Why do they run
Why are we scared of night
We don't want to be alone

Yet we push against the tide
Keep them at a distance
We hold our feelings inside
And we don't let them out

We lie with straight faces to those we love
We all feel like we can't be honest
We look for answers above
We don't want to be forgotten

We want to protect others
But how do we
We want to have faith in one another
But yet we still doubt

I question if I can find a home

Why are we afraid of commitment
Why do we have to hate
We want fulfillment
But don't believe we deserve it

Why is everything a puzzle or game
Why can't we accept who we are
Why do we regret and shame
We don't know how to feel

People are like a pendulum
Swinging in different directions
We make decisions on adrenaline
Sometimes we will fall

We lock ourselves in cages
We throw away the key
We rip out pages
We can't seem to leave

Why is it hard to have belief
Why do we question everything
Why can't we have relief
Why can't we forget our pain

I'm not sure how to forgive
It's harder to forgive myself
Sometimes it's hard to live

There isn't trust without a relationship
