Straining at Love
You're so overtuned your strings are snapping
Thought marriage would be a housemate and bud
but it's a selfless cheerleader clapping
Really, if that is true it means I'm just a dud
I feel like you are just straining at love
I thought it would be unconditional
Why not sweet, harmless, no straining at love
Pardon desperation sensational
Why are we talking now past each other?
I thought we both would still be listening
Now it's time for me to pray and wonder
I've shut down to your paranoid shunning

Astute and oh so relatable write on long term relationships. Your first stanza is such a grabber I had to read it several times as I admired the perceptive value of it! Marriage/commitment is the hardest work sometimes as it continues to morph over time and you’ve captured that feeling of desperate questioning of how did we get to this place when things started out so “perfect”?
Your work has penetrated right to my core with so many elements of similar thoughts. Superb tight write. H🌷

I would say keep talking and work at it. One person doing the straining not healthy.
