chasing fireflies, a short, short story
Lila ran through the grass, laughing as it tickled her bare feet.
“Come and play, Ted!” she called, beckoning to her brother.
“Hurry, the sun’s setting and the fireflies are out.”
Ted looked up from the book he had been reading.
“I’ll come in a minute. Let me just finish this page.”
Lila watched him for a while, then, stomping in disgust,
stalked over to where Ted sat.
“Get up.” she ordered, hands on hips, staring him down.
Ted laughed, “Alright, alright. I’m done and I’m coming.”
Lila’s face brightened, and she grabbed Ted’s hand.
Then, together, the siblings raced off in pursuit of the fireflies.
