Porcelain Fool
Like a porcelain doll I am afraid to fall,
Unless there is a cushion to break my fall,
I can't risk breaking into a million pieces,
Unless I could trade each for a dime.
A penny for my thoughts and a dollar for my time.
Like a porcelain doll I'm afraid to fall,
I could shatter and learn I'm hollow inside .
Learn I'm not as beautiful as I thought I was,
Left as nothing but sharp pieces of what used to be myself
Ready to prick whoever dares come close,
Unless they have artistic prowess,
The sureness of a prophet,
The wisdom of a monk
And the consistency of a calendar,
Only then will I be the porcelain fool
Who believed was made of steel.
