Wishing Star
like ticking hands on a little clock
the days pass over me
and with another night dissolving
i look at what’s above my head
stars that twinkle, like your eyes once did
specks that speak to me from miles away
still visible for me to see, even light years away
where you must be
i wander through the streets
like a ghost who haunts the living
hoping for your silhouette to appear
and like the words you left me, I spot nothing
maybe you’re a wishing star
listening for my cry tonight
write back, call me, want me this time
only then, you’ll shoot across the sky
i spoke your name aloud
into the listening ears of fog and wind
that’s when I saw you descend
a flash, a trail, illuminated me then
and with a pass across the stars, you disappeared, once again
the days pass over me
and with another night dissolving
i look at what’s above my head
stars that twinkle, like your eyes once did
specks that speak to me from miles away
still visible for me to see, even light years away
where you must be
i wander through the streets
like a ghost who haunts the living
hoping for your silhouette to appear
and like the words you left me, I spot nothing
maybe you’re a wishing star
listening for my cry tonight
write back, call me, want me this time
only then, you’ll shoot across the sky
i spoke your name aloud
into the listening ears of fog and wind
that’s when I saw you descend
a flash, a trail, illuminated me then
and with a pass across the stars, you disappeared, once again
