Your abstract love poems are always much more entertaining and beautiful than your more concrete ones. Well-wrought and constructed, an original metaphor presented with finesse. However, did you need the word "like" in the second line of the first stanza? Placed there, it makes the narrator sound like a teenage girl ("he was so like..."/"and I was like..." etc.)

Now I thought I did need that word, Jack and I'll tell you why. I made a decision that better heeled readers like yourself would interpret 'like' as meaning similar - which mirrors same minded two lines below. But it seems I must cast myself upon my sword as my dalliance with word play doth truly seem the most miserable of feeble failure.

Despite your rather baroque pronouncement of failure, the "like" thing was only a small quibble, an almost invisible speck of dust on an otherwise perfect Mercedes Benz. What do you mean by "heeled readers"?

...well as we are all bankrupts here I thought it was a straightforward conjecture that I was alluding to - as I have intimated previously - how well read a chap you are, Jack.

Thank you, Abra, but I think you overestimate my literary knowledge. I have read a lot of poetry, but only certain kinds. For isntance, I can tell you anything you need to know about Sexton or Teasdale or Bukowski, but ask me to discuss Shakespeare or Dante or Proust and I'll shrug my shoulders like a stroppy child.

I'm surprised by that, Jack - you might look at Inferno when you have time - truly compelling.
