But, dear B-kitty...they used to (have legs) if you check their paleontological history...
When they moved back to the sea they didn't need them anymore so they quit growing them... hugs, Ely

The term Ape could mean an wild animals which makes it either an insult or an inside joke...
I don't know what's my take on this....
Black people have been called Apes and that for us was very painful...

Not too far inside, dear Poet... the expression is not at all uncommon in the US... and refers to extraordinary excitement ...expressing anything from anger to joy...for a more complete explanation... have a look at my following post...no offence intended...hugs, Ely

As a proud Welshman & football freak, I can shed some light. Bale = ape. Alludes to his apparent likeness to a cartoon character. Not very clever nickname to be candid.

The term, "Going Ape" is not a nickname...or a name at all...it refers to his ACTIONS immediately after making the goal, which included tight fists, thrust out chest and a scream from his wide open mouth...all this no doubt, a self congratulatory exhibition of,
ˇYes, I did it!..
And well deserved... But his face in that moment reminded me of the expressions on the faces of both Tarzan and his "brother"...who happened to be a gorilla in
the film, "The Legend of Tarzan" circa 2016.
I hope this explanation has been helpful...I would not insult my mother, certainly.

You might enjoy the film... it's very well done...and Jane is no shrinking violet either...Ta, Ely

Sorry, I can't recall the specific cartoon. It merely kind of an in-joke/interaction between Bale and the fans. Nostalgic for that night in Lille with 40,000 Welsh in July 2016. Beating Belgium in Euro Quarter Final. Rest of the evening was drunken haze, courtesy of French wine. Good memories.
