having said that, why ukelele rather than, say, a cello or violin, harp? it's probably more to do with me and my own snatches of ukelele-familiarity which is more along the lines of George Formby... is it used in a more romantic/classical way in other cultures, perhaps?
You took me back to memories growing up on Oahu, again! When i was learning to play the UKULELE, i was given about 10 songs to practice with. I no longer have the uke (i still want an electric uke) but i remember almost all the songs : )
I have a uke player in my house... and unlike some bigger instruments, it does snuggle into the player's body in a particularly loving way.... Nice. :)
