The Wooden Box

Hearsay of a wooden box, with countless treasures, sits upon a mountainous hill,
deep inside a darkened cavern.

Hearsay of forgotten men, who sought after the wooden box, lay in pitch-black,
with countless treasures.

Hearsay, all is hearsay!

The clamber is steep, and many men of late
have clambered the mountainous hill,
in exploration of the wooden box,
and its countless treasures.

Hearsay, all is hearsay!

"Many men of late, forgotton they are not!
My itching ears can handle no more!
My mind is made up.
I shall venture out on my quest for the wooden box--its countless treasures,
I shall find!"

"Hearsay, hearsay no more!"

The night was bleak and dreary,
as I lay my head down--sleep escaped me.
My mind running rapid;
anxious thoughts of countless treasures
--gold, silver, pearls, and diamonds--Oh, what shall I find!--Knowingly the rise of the morning sun prolonged itself.
My eyes never found sleep.

At morning light, overcast skies hovered over, but I would not let them deter my spirit, as I clambered up the treacherous hillside.

The troublesome climb quickly passed; for my mind was racing with numerous thoughts of countless treasures laying inside the wooden box.

"Oh, what treasures I shall find!--Gems, golden rings, and crowns with rubies, and many more precious stones!
It shall all be mine!
Hearsay, hearsay no more!"

Before I know it, I find my feet standing at the entrance of the cavern. A shadowy path lays ahead. I make my way into the cavern slowly. It is damp and bleak. A slight chill comes upon me.

The deeper I travel, carefully watching my every step, my body shakes uncontrollably with great anticipation--"Oh, the countless treasures I shall find! "

Deeper and deeper I travel down into the cavern. Darkness begins suffocating the light. I struggle to see in front of me.
--When suddenly, my heart quickly skips a beat--I gasp for breath.

Wide eyed, I holler emphatically,
"There it lays, the wooden box!
"The countless treasures shall all be mine!
--Hearsay, hearsay no more!"

A thin strand of light shines down upon the wooden box--I make acute observations--A sheet of dust lays settled upon the lid. I quickly wipe the dust off, to find the wood of the box to be old, but beautiful.
My eyes fixate on the metal latch reflecting the light.

I become giddy with delight. My body begins shaking uncontrollably as I reach for the latch of the box.
Time seemingly slows down--Oh, the suspense--I can't take it anymore--Oh, the countless treasures shall all be mine!

I lift the lid, and gaze into the wooden box.
--Bewildered, I can't believe my eyes!--I slam the lid with immense fury!

"IT CAN'T BE!" I BELLOW,
"HEARSAY, ALL IS HEARSAY!"
