My Cloak
This morning when I awoke
Waiting for me to open my eyes
My invisible cloak
Awaiting my return
As I rose from my slumber
The pain in my chest was palpable
It’s true, I can’t remember
A time when I was free
Free from the shackles of affliction
Unfettered from this pain
Because heartache is my companion
It will not set me free
It beckons to me even in my sleep
With deep set eyes and pallid skin
Even when I dream
I know it is pending my return
For it has but one mission
To carry me to my grave
If I gave death permission
It would take carry me away
I am not yet ready to go there
To the great unknown
But my companion whispers in my ear
It says come, for this peace is everlasting
I rise to face another day
And don my dark cloak
Misery awaits my stay
On this planet until I finally surrender
Waiting for me to open my eyes
My invisible cloak
Awaiting my return
As I rose from my slumber
The pain in my chest was palpable
It’s true, I can’t remember
A time when I was free
Free from the shackles of affliction
Unfettered from this pain
Because heartache is my companion
It will not set me free
It beckons to me even in my sleep
With deep set eyes and pallid skin
Even when I dream
I know it is pending my return
For it has but one mission
To carry me to my grave
If I gave death permission
It would take carry me away
I am not yet ready to go there
To the great unknown
But my companion whispers in my ear
It says come, for this peace is everlasting
I rise to face another day
And don my dark cloak
Misery awaits my stay
On this planet until I finally surrender
