White
Is it self-hatred
To despise Caucasians when
Sometimes I hear them speak
I cringe deep within
My skin the same color
White privilege protects them clearly
Like King Arthur’s sword
Guarding them wearily
How are they blind to the people of color
Who surround them every day
And as they carry on their lives
They offend with each word they say
Unknowing or uncaring when they speak
Their words often offensive
Unaware that they transgress
Causing others to be defensive
I must reconcile this somehow
Pale skin brown soul
Until I can resolve
I will not be whole
To despise Caucasians when
Sometimes I hear them speak
I cringe deep within
My skin the same color
White privilege protects them clearly
Like King Arthur’s sword
Guarding them wearily
How are they blind to the people of color
Who surround them every day
