come cover me
stunned by the bruises
and bandages
of your unguarded
selflessness
you come
again
to me
and i am ready
to receive you
this time
perhaps your kindness
shall heal my blindness
for your fingers
are more judicious
than my clenched fists
your tears
are more fragrant
than my spiteful jeers
your lips
are warmer
than my strident tongue
your smiles
absolve my wrongs
and your patience
is a song
whose resonance
disarms me
and charms me
and leaves me
naked
on the battlefield of
self-appointed
dissonance
come cover me
and hide my shame
for i have taken you
for granted
for too long
and in my wrong
claimed helplessness
when all along
stunned by the bruises
and bandages
of your unguarded
selflessness
i have known
you have been
everything
my desperate soul
has ever needed
