L.A. Soul’s Embrace – Sonnet Twenty-Six

From Angel Forest’s night to Pyramid,
From Tejon through the gut of 4-0-5.
From valley smarm to downtown’s endless grid
I taste its blood as L.A. comes alive.

From Door’s perception marred in Whiskey’s haze,
To Pepper’s Magik under bridges bared,
From Dre and California Love-ings days,
To Lovin’ Got, Sublime, in death’s despair.

If L.A.’s blood is rushing through its streets,
(How can such frenzy any hope console?)
It’s music’s hope that understates its beat,
It’s music’s hope that captures L.A.’s soul.

In highways, L.A.’s heart may always race,
But music’s thrum is L.A. soul’s embrace.
