Sonnet to a Camera
Upon this mountain flat I rest,
surrounded by rock, sky, and timber.
Mighty your peaks stand among the Northwest,
your majesty and beauty, nothing can hinder.
With camera in hand, I dare to capture,
this imposing painterly masterpiece.
Such wild elegence fills my soul with rapture,
an impression such as yours may never fade or cease.
But what is this digital imposter glowing,
bright upon my camera screen, boldly taunting?
This intricate device, I had hoped, reluctantly knowing,
could accomplish a task so impossibly daunting.
Oh why, my artificial eye, dost thou betray me?
How now, can I share such rapture, such glee?
surrounded by rock, sky, and timber.
