Insomniac
(He) Forgot how to dream
Staring into the darkness
Left behind at the end
Of endless days/(daze)
There was nothing left of sleep
As the dead of night
Pressed his eyes
Against the silence of 2AM.
Thoughts screamed bloodshot
Through a dull cold ache
Where the heart used to beat
Hope singing sunshine into morning
Do you remember when
The crickets hummed
Like electricity through
The desert night?
When bonfires filled the floor with shadows
Stretching nervously as silhouettes of sage
Breathing asthmatic against whispers wild
While we laid sober under the weight of stars
Edges red, bleeding faded embers
Winking at creases in the stone
Disappearing into deep secret nooks
Unknown forever to nostalgia
Splitting at stretched seams
Pleading for release of sunrise
To paint over this veil of gray
And trace his face with spring
Staring into the darkness
Left behind at the end
Of endless days/(daze)
There was nothing left of sleep
As the dead of night
Pressed his eyes
Against the silence of 2AM.
Thoughts screamed bloodshot
Through a dull cold ache
Where the heart used to beat
Hope singing sunshine into morning
Do you remember when
The crickets hummed
Like electricity through
The desert night?
When bonfires filled the floor with shadows
Stretching nervously as silhouettes of sage
Breathing asthmatic against whispers wild
While we laid sober under the weight of stars
Edges red, bleeding faded embers
Winking at creases in the stone
Disappearing into deep secret nooks
Unknown forever to nostalgia
Splitting at stretched seams
Pleading for release of sunrise
To paint over this veil of gray
And trace his face with spring
