Wishes
I wish I could have met you
When we both were free
I’d love to look into those eyes
And see them staring back at me
I wish I could have known the feel
Of laying my head upon your chest
Snuggled up, legs wrapped around
I bet that feeling is the best
I wish that smile was meant for me
In your candid photographs
The sparkle of your soul shines through
the sound of your infectious laugh
I wish my fingertips had the luxury
Of tracing every inch of your skin
I promise I would memorize every curve
Just to do it all over again
I wish I could make you coffee
Or knew how you liked your eggs
Find out if you prefer pancakes
Or French toast with a little nutmeg?
I wish I knew the taste of your lips
And the softness of your tongue
I have written you so many melodies
To songs that could never be sung
I wish I could feel the weight of you
Crushing my body from deep desire
Your sweat-dampened forehead against my lips
As pure love and devotion transpire
I wish it would’ve been me in white
Walking towards you down the aisle
Committing a lifetime of love to you
Becoming the mother of your child
You are amazing in every sense
So stay with me just a little while
Let me marvel at your magic
Before I walk the lonely mile
Emotions are running deep like a canyon
Sparks are catching fire in the sky
You’re perfect for me but the timing is wrong
So I must say, “Goodbye.”
