Rockhollow Late Winter 2019

We meet, in near kisses,
as you press your
most condensed self deep
beneath my nails. The Sparrows
and Great Tits
sing the songs of an old Britain,
more naturalised and steady,
hidden in naked trees.
The sycamores, apples, oaks cast shadows
along paths bathed in bright
January light. This time,
this space is enveloping
and new. A congregation of Galanthus
stand proudly, opened as presents on the birth
days of youth. The valiant
Cardoon casting her shape and texture
across the vegetable plot and Clematis,
in his beautiful delicacy, bows his head -
purity in Winter. Our hearts share
these secret markers of Spring on the chilled horizon, the splendor of
our shared Summer.
Many hardy efforts in equal and matched dedication.
There is no coldness beneath, in the unseen, growing.
I will work for you,
for the rest of my days.
