No Place to Die

she said a lot of things
I didn’t want to hear them
put my hands over my ears
to muffle the sound
of the door slamming
as she left me
now all I’m feeling
is heavy
like a rock on the floor
never to be picked back up

I promise I’m ok
the thing about promises
they're meant to be broken
somewhat like my heart
drowning in the ocean
on a hot summers day
such a beautiful end
almost as beautiful as the beginning
the thing about beginnings
they always feel
like they’ll last forever

my knees feel week
like they did
the day I collapsed into her arms
oh what a feeling
to know
she’s never coming home

(bump, bump, bump)
when I first saw her face
(bump, bump, stab)
the moment I knew
there was just no recovery

angels from the sky
say to me
begging me
get up you fool
stand on your feet
this is no place to die
