What he doesn't know won't...
he won't last much longer.
his body is here,
just barely hanging by a thread
but his memory has already left.
his mind is a pile of journals
all of which have had their contents erased.
he is already gone.
he is still alive
but he is not living.
he doesn't know that he is gone yet.
he doesn't know much of anything anymore.
i will miss him when he finally passes
but i have already mourned
because i lost him when he forgot.

Author's Note
this is about my grandfather who has fallen victim to dimentia. he is in his final stages now and can no longer do much on his own. he is going to be gone soon and it makes me sad but i know i lost him the day he forgot who i was. all thats left is for his body to go too.
