Who Shot The Rose?

One more dreamer
Flower girl
Peddling promise
Pistoled

One less rose scented sidewalk
to shepherd the senseless
into sanctuary

Hit by a stray bullet
NRA to save bullets?
She tried to write away bullets

Award winning writer rose called Parks
Little Rosa Parks
Front seat, furious for freedom
Dodging delinquent gunfire daily

Sadly, seeds of the streets
Stem like statues
End as tombstones

Withering in her mother’s arms
She was only 13.
We all held the gun.
We didn’t do enough.
Some of us did nothing.

One more dreamer
Flower girl
Planted painfully
watered by tears
Gardened in eternal light.

In memory of a fellow brilliant writer,
Sandra Parks.
