Note to a Crack Head
After you
kept the street awake all night
every night
After you destroyed
other people's mail
and transformed the garden
into a takeaway for rats
After you hammered nails
into the water pipes
hid knives under the doormat
borrowed the man next door's bicycle
and sold it
After you stole donation bags
from outside charity shops
to soundproof your bedroom wall
and gave my name to police
the last time they locked you up
After you painted
red clouds on the ceiling
monsters in the hall
and all the windows black
After you threatened
to burn everything
and kill everyone
because you thought
the world was a nest of spies
in the post war ruins
of your personal Beirut...
After that,
don't you think
it might be time
to quit?
