It’s easy to underestimate
What you’ll need  
As a grad student  
But you pulled me  
Through  
By saving me  
From all of the    
Paid xerox copies    
That it would have    
Taken  
To distribute    
Myself  
To the rest of the class,  
By preventing me  
From buying  
Books only to read  
Relatively small  
Passages  
(Which meant even more copies)
And by letting me  
Loiter in your office hours  
When everything  
And absolutely nothing was    
Eating up my mind.  
On a more personal note,  
You always let me know  
When you were going to be out  
(Sometimes with the reason inserted)  
And what to expect  
From the substitute,  
While briefing me  
On the lesson plans.  
Yet distressing  
Occurrences  
Didn’t escape us  
Like  
Calling on me  
So frequently in class  
That I had to ask
(In private)
If you could please  
Not do that;  
To which you replied  
“I’ll try not to embarrass you  
In front of your peers.”
